Experience the electrifying fusion of flamenco and big band jazz as the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra collaborates with internationally acclaimed Dutch saxophonist, composer and bandleader Bernard van Rossum. They are joined by special guests vocalist Raquel Avellan, with roots in flamenco and musical theatre, flautist Ella Sarson, guitarist Joshua De Silva, known for his intricate finger-style playing and jazz influences, and percussionist Katie Waterhouse.
Praised by Kenny Werner for his “modern, innovative and highly skilful composition” and described by All About Jazz as “awash in perception and authenticity,” van Rossum is the driving force behind the award-winning BvR Flamenco Big Band. His bold writing and virtuosic improvisation have been heard at major international festivals including North Sea Jazz, the Flamenco Biennale and Eurojazz Mexico.
In this large-scale collaboration, van Rossum’s dynamic flamenco-jazz works are brought to life by the 18-piece Resonance Jazz Orchestra, alongside striking choreography and flamenco-inspired movement from Youth Ballet WA. Founded in 2005, Youth Ballet WA is an elite training organisation nurturing the next generation of professional dancers through rigorous, career-focused training.
