Authors Emily Brugman and Ahmad Fuadi are writers who have each found literary inspiration in journeys. Emily’s debut novel, The Islands, is inspired by her Finnish family's migration experiences, and their time spent living and working on the Abrolhos Islands between 1959-1972. In Ahmad Fuadi’s best-selling novel, Negri 5 Menara (The Land of Five Towers) Ali travels to a remote Javanese village to attend boarding school. Meanwhile, Emily and Ahmad meet on the Ubud Writers Festival Perth stage, having journeyed from Byron Bay and Jakarta respectively.
