The jazz liberator returns.
As we enter the 2020s it is now not unheard of for a 10-minute long Sun Ra odyssey to reverberate through night clubs to an engaged, twenty-something crowd. Notable, too, is how prolific jazz has entered the popular consciousness, jazz musicians have infiltrated major club records and summer festival listings.

If we're talking honourable mentions for the revolution, it is impossible to look past Gilles Peterson.
This January & February, Crown Ruler proudly bring the radio renegade, one of our generation's most prolific tastemakers, back to 'Australia' at a time when his thirty year-long vision of jazz and its translation into the club context could not be any more relevant.

Over three decades Gilles Peterson has ostensibly contributed to bringing alternative, jazz-tipped music out of the club back rooms and into the mainstream. The popular underground music of the day is often first heard by the thousands of disciples who religiously tune into Gilles Peterson's radio programme now on BBC 6 Music.
Peterson will be DJing with his MC General Rubbish on a string of dates across the country equally focused on showcasing Australia’s bright, groove-laden renaissance. At the helm with his deep bag of eclectic dance records, GP will be supported by some of this continent’s most hotly tipped talent, proving 'Australia' is now a bonafide player in an exciting new movement felt worldwide.

Supported by Perth native Kuzich with his trio, his political-soul brother of Mandarin Dreams camp, Alien - and more to be announced.

All artists, organisers & staff acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Custodians of the land on which this event will take place. We pay our respects to their connection to country & waters, their ongoing resistance since 1788, their ancestors and their elders past, present & future. We invite First Nations patrons to hit us up at Crown Ruler for tickets and you’ll be looked after. [-o-]
